Treatment Plant Seismic Upgrades Nearing Completion

Posted on October 3, 2017 at 10:23 AM by Ann Vallee

Construction at the San Geronimo Treatment PlantMMWD is investing $9 million in seismic and other upgrades to our San Geronimo and Bon Tempe water treatment plants to ensure reliable, high-quality water.

In the event of an earthquake, MMWD will need to continue to supply clean drinking water for customers. This important infrastructure project will ensure our water filtration systems are available within 24 hours after a major earthquake.

The work includes thickening the filter walls and addressing other structural issues of the plants, which were built in the late 1950s. It also includes enlarging the Bon Tempe Intertie to allow us to move water more easily between the northern and southern sections of our water system.

Work at the San Geronimo plant is complete and the Bon Tempe phase is well under way. We expect the entire project to be complete by the end of this year.
