The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
The award is for the water district’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. The CAFR is the distict’s annual financial report, prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as outlined by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. The report is audited annually by an external accounting firm.
This marks the third year in a row that MMWD has received the award. According to a statement from the GFOA, “The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
The GFOA is a nonprofit, professional association dedicated to the sound management of government financial resources, which serves approximately 19,000 government finance professionals. The Certificate of Achievement was established in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
