Background 

Marin Water is in the early stages of updating its Roads & Trails Management Plan (RTMP), a long-range effort to evaluate public access, stewardship and restoration priorities across the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed. The update is focused on a combined 30-35 miles of existing fire roads, formal trails and social trails that are being reviewed for potential access changes, along with opportunities to improve natural resource protection and visitor experience. 

Community engagement is underway and helping to inform the process. Most recently, staff shared an update with the Watershed Committee, including early observations and themes emerging from broad public feedback, as well as key planning elements that will help inform future scenarios — including opportunities related to multi-use trails and enhanced stewardship. Two community workshops were held in November to gather initial input, followed by a series of site walks in January and February, and another to follow this spring to explore on-the-ground conditions.
